SQL Server status is: Unable To Monitor

I'm receiving the following message from a couple different servers... both are SQL 2016.  This is on Idera SQL DM 10.1.4.78.  I'm not sure where to go from here... anyone seen this?  It looks like it is an SQL DM side issue as opposed to a SQL Server side issue.

SQL Server instance XXXX - The SQL Server service status is: Unable To Monitor.

[XXXX] Error interpreting Job Alerts Collector: Column name or number of supplied values does not match table definition.

realy slow loading of dashbords in DiagnosticManager 10.3.0.92

Hello all,

we have done an upgrade from 10.2 to 10.3 last week. Today I noticed the dashboard tab of all monitored servers takes multiple minutes for loading, stating "connecting".
All other tabs respond in a normal way but it seems that tabs with multiple grafics like Ressources need longer loading. Alerting & Reporting works well.

We got a dedicated SQL Server for Diagnostic Manager Database hosting. SQLdmManagementService puts a permanent  load of 50-70% on the SQL Server CPU, even if no Console is conencted.

In know issues of 10.3 I see nothing like this, instance and service restart do not change anything. Are there any issues causing diagnostic manager high CPU usage?

Cheers

Marco

SQLdm 10.3 - AMExtendedEventsDirectoryTree Table Being Re-created Every Few Minutes in tempdb

I upgraded our SQLdm to 10.3 a few days ago and now I'm seeing a table named "AMExtendedEventsDirectoryTree" being created and dropped in the tempdb database every 2 mins or so. Is this normal?

Rollback process for upgrade of SQLdm

$

Hi,

I want to upgrade SQLdm from 10.2 to 10.3, but haven't done a SQLdm upgrade before. The change management process requires me to document the rollback process.

Obviously I would backup the repository database beforehand but what about the software elements, dlls, registry etc? Unfortunately a VM snapshot isn't really an option because of size.

Is there a defined rollback process for this?

Many thanks,

Simon

Instances not appearing in Dashboard

We recently upgraded to Diagnostic Manager 10.3.1.3 and installed and  the Dashboard, which seems to be working (i can connect and login).

However, none of the servers we are monitoring in Diagnostic Manager appear in the web dashboard.  I'm not seeing any errors, so i am struggling to figure out what is wrong.

All advice appreciated.

Thanks

Threadpool waits

Hi, All,

Using other tools, I've found I have a SQL Server with a small, but growing, set of Threadpool waits. Is there a way to track these down in SQL DM?

Thank you!

Read-only access to SQL DM

Hi,

I've had a request from the on-call app support team to have access to SQL DM.

Is there a way to grant them just view access to the console?

They must not be able to make any changes to either SQL DM itself or any of the monitored SQL Servers?

Need to fire the PowerShell script when idera alert is degraded

Hi,

Please give us the proper solution for below challenge.

Scenario 1:

From IDERA alert responses and actions, we are firing the PowerShell script which will call the alert ingestion rest API url of our product. We applied the below conditions in rule configuration.

       1. metric severity is changed.

2.metric severity is informational, warning or critical.

        3.metric is in specified list.

4.sql server is in specified list

In select actions we  selected run the following program(PowerShell script).

Scenario 2:

Now we need to  fire the another PowerShell script  when severity comes to ok state and the powershell script  will call the close alert ingestion REST API url of our product.

For the second scenario we have created the one more rule and from alert responses and actions we are the poweshell script. Below are the condition applied.

      1. metric severity is changed.

       2. metric severity is OK.

In the first scenario we are getting the proper metric names as it is showing in IDERA monitoring console. But in second scenario we are getting some truncated names like SQL,Procedure.

Our requirement is to get the same metric names in both the scenarios when alert is raised.

Can you please share your solutions for this challenge.

Thanks and Regards

Idera SQL DM 10+ Using the "Net Address" column

I'm having difficulty changing the format of the "Net Address" column in the session details. I can convert it from hex to decimal to get an easier to read IP address, but the display is almost useless to me as it is. I shouldn't have to convert every single time I want to see where something is coming from.

I'm fairly certain I've searched every nook and cranny of the Knowledge Base and the community. Is there any way to change the way the address is displayed to a more user-friendly decimal IP address?

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Receiving the following message when trying to install:

IDERA SQLdm Installation was unsuccessfull.

The %PROGRAMFILES%\Idera\SQLdm x64 Installation Kit\InstallSQLDM.log file has the following:

1: Attempting to establish the SQL connection... Server: XXXXXX\YYYYYYY, Database:
MSI (s) (A8!D0) [11:58:43:101]: Product: IDERA SQL Diagnostic Manager (x64) -- Error 27502.Could not connect to Microsoft SQL Server 'XXXXXX\YYYYYYY'. Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed.

Error 27502.Could not connect to Microsoft SQL Server 'XXXXXX\YYYYYYY'. Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed.
CustomAction ISSQLServerInstall returned actual error code 1603 (note this may not be 100% accurate if translation happened inside sandbox)

where XXXXXX\YYYYYYY is redacted.

Does anyone know how I can find out what the actual issue is?

Thank you.

SQLDM skipping multiple monitoring sessions across multiple servers

We have a rather large SQLDM configuration here, with 140+ servers / 1000+ databases being monitored simultaneously from one SQLDM instance. However, monitoring feels like it is starting to fail - many servers, even ones that are not that busy, have gaps in their monitoring, varying from 10-15 minutes up to several days.

There is some correlation with server load, with the busiest servers having the largest and most frequent gaps. However, the correlation is not straightforward. Production Server A, which is our biggest server with the highest average load maxes out at gaps of about a day, whereas Production Server S has a currently running gap of nearly four days at this moment. Development Server A has gaps when nothing is running of up to 50 minutes, QA Server S has gaps of up to an hour, but has been running heavily for the last few days, whereas QA Server A has gaps larger than production server A.

When you are onitoring a specific server, such as server S, you will see values feed into the graphs as time passes. However if you switch to monitoring another server, then return to S, there were no snapshots recorded in the period.

Does anyone know -- Is this just the limit of what Idera can monitor on the hardware we are using, or has anyone experienced this before with something to fix or examine?

NOTE: We intend to open a ticket with Idera soon, but I was hoping that some genius here could give us a hint on what we should be looking at.

Thanks,

Brendt

We have the following installed:

IDERA SQL Diagnostic Manager Repository 10.3.1
IDERA SQL Diagnostic Manager Management Service 10.3.1.3
IDERA SQL Diagnostic Manager Collection Service 10.3.1.3

Diagnostic Manager Desktop works fine (albeit, a little slow).

However, the Dashboard is unusable because it errors out (inconsistently).  Sometimes the results come back on a widget (after awhile), most often it comes back with the error:  Error while fetching data. Please check log for more details

If I go to the Detail View" tab, I get the error:  Error The passed instance information is not valid.

Sometimes I am able to customize the Dashboard.  More often than not I get an error:  Oops, Looks like we are experiencing technical difficulty. Please try again in a few minutes

SQLDm - index fragmentation rebuild not actually rebuilding

$

I found what  I believe to be a bug in the SQLDm app, we are on version 10.1.3.1.

Go to alerts, find one that has a fragmentation warning (i.e. fragmentation level over X%).

Drill down on the alert, expanding to the table and indexes view.

Right click on the table in question and rebuild index.  Now at this point it will go through and give you a result that it was rebuilt and what the post rebuild fragmentation is.

What actually happens is nothing is rebuilt, the indexes remain fragmented.  I traced the call and got the actual code it runs, it seems like it will never be successful do to a check resulting in a NULL value.

select @type = type, @indexid = index_id from sys.indexes where object_id = @id and name = 'null'

I put in a ticket over a week ago, listing it as a high level priority.  Got the initial email from the support worker, I provided all the requested information and since then it is typical Idera support...ZERO communication on a status of where the ticket is at.

The extremely poor support Idera provides on issues is one of the main reasons we are moving away from this flaky product as a whole.

Custom report: How do I get worst performing services for PLE

$

I am trying to create a custom report in diagnostic manager to show the worse performing sql server instances for certain counters. I notice that when I add PLE, it shows me the best not worst performing servers since higher PLE is better than lower PLE.  How do I get the custom report to sort correctly?  Is there some way to use a custom metric?  Couldn't figure out how to create that correctly.
